TESDA 11 Holds Life Skills Training for CTECs

In a bid to further enhance the teaching skills and capabilities of Community Training and Employment Coordinators (CTECs) and CTEC focals, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Region 11 in partnership with the USAID- Mindanao Youth for Development (MYDev) conducted a four-day Life Skills Training at the Grand Regal Hotel here.
The said Training Program held on March 12-15, 2018, aims to orient and help the trainers prepare and implement the modality of Life Skills or Work Ready Now (WRN) curriculum package of Education Development Center (EDC) and for them to also appreciate TESDA’s 21st Century Skills Competencies as it complements the WRN curriculum.
Participated by about 60 CTECs and CTEC focals from the entire Davao region, the training was also intended to equip trainers to effectively demonstrate and deliver activities and lessons in the Life Skills Facilitator’s Manual in a more interactive and effective manner.
Compostela Valley Provincial Director Arlyn S. Bandong in her speech during the opening program, thanked the TESDA Regional Office Division (ROD) for initiating capacity-building activities for CTECs and stressed that this would enable TESDA to relay services more effectively especially in the countryside.
“We are doing this to enhance the capacities of our partners, our bridges- the CTECs, in bringing the services to the communities,” Bandong said.
Bandong also underscored that the first Life Skills Training conducted in 2017 did not only develop a pool of trainers who were to re-echo their learning last year but as well as paved way for TESDA 11 to be granted with the first ever license from its partner agency USAID to conduct the training program on its own.
“This is one of the most unique training program you will ever undertake, this is very enjoyable, very productive, very fruitful, you will be on your feet all the time. Stay put and you will not regret this training program. This is one of the best training programs given to us for free by USAID,” she added.
Meanwhile, MYDev Chief of Party, Nancy Wallace said as the challenge to unlock potential and inspire the youth continue to grow, she hopes that the Life Skills Training will help CTECs would help learn and overcome these challenges and give them more tools to work and teach the youth.
“We have one thing in common, we want the best for the youth of Mindanao and we want to see them succeed and we want to have the ability to play a critical role in their transformation,” Wallace said.
The event was composed of various interactive activities, demonstrations, and discussions where participants are expected to discover and acquire teaching and learning strategies from the nine modules including values, beliefs and qualities, active learning strategies, leadership styles, workplace behaviours and attitudes, safety and health at work, rights and responsibilities of workers and employers, financial fitness, and entrepreneurship.
