Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte visits Skills Training on Traditional Hilot Massage
It is very fortunate that the Davao City Mayor, Hon. Sara Duterte, was able to attend the opening ceremony of the community-based training on Traditional Hilot Massage conducted on February 16 to 17, 2019 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Obrero, Davao City initiated by TESDA Davao City/Sur Provincial Office with TESDA XI Regional Director, Engr. Lorenzo G. Macapili and OIC-Provincial Director, Bayani E. Gofredo.
The skills training aims to relive the traditional way of hilot massage with application of the so called “Tuob” which uses herbal plants such as sambong leaves, lemon grass (tanglad) and ginger (luy-a) for aroma therapy which is very effective in healing cough, muscle spasm and it refreshes our mind, body and spirit.On her message, she commended TESDA and Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish for initiating the skills training on traditional hilot which she believed to be very effective in healing health illnesses.
A total of fifty (50) women and indigent parishioners were the beneficiaries of the said skills training with Ms. Arcilita F. Brananola, from Zamboanga City and an expert practitioner of traditional hilot for more than 20 years, tapped as trainer.
Some TESDA accredited trainers of massage were also invited to attend the training for the enhancement of their skills. They are encouraged to multiply their learnings through conduct of community-based training programs in various barangays in Davao City/Sur areas.
The training is in collaboration with Daughters of Mary Immaculate (DMI) of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish through Fr. Emmanuel “Bong” Gonzaga, the parish priest and the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) which provided food assistance.
