108 inmates trained by TESDA
Some 108 inmates from the Provincial Rehabilitation and Reformatory Center located at Sitio Tambobongan, Barangay Sainz, Mati City, Davao Oriental received their National Certificates on Wednesday, March 27, for completing technical-vocational training on various qualifications under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
The inmates underwent training on Hilot Wellness Massage NC II, Plumbing NC II, Shielded Metal Arc Welding NC I, Carpentry NC II, Install Pre-Cast Balluster and Handrail Leading to Masonry NC II, and Massage Therapy NC II all under the Community-based Training Program of the agency.
The training duration of the cited 6 qualifications is from July – December of 2018, of which all have undergone a National Assessment after. These interventions were provided by TESDA with the aim of giving hope to these inmates making them employable after serving the reformatory center. Ten certified graduates are now outside the reformatory center enjoying their liberty and making positive spot in the society.
TESDA Davao Oriental Provincial Director Leah D. Braga said during the graduation ceremony that the National Certificates they received are proof of their acquired knowledge, skills and competencies that will later transform their lives outside the reformatory center. PD Braga also expressed her grateful appreciation to OIC Warden, Apollo C. Conde and staff for making TESDA programs relevant to the dreams and aspirations of every PDL or Persons Deprived of Liberty.
In his message the OIC Warden, APW Apollo C. Conde emphasized their full support in strengthening partnership with TESDA for more continuing programs. He added that there will also be a training for the spouses and families of the Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) to make them employable and productive.
This year 2019, TESDA Davao Oriental is looking forward for more productive endeavor with the Reformatory Center and other special clients. And most of these trainings will be parallel to the Presidential Directives on Agriculture/Fishery and Build, Build, Build, Programs.
