66 PDLs complete TESDA training

DAVAO CITY – Some 66 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) from the Davao City Jail received their National Certificates on Friday, July 5, for completing their technical-vocational training under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

25 PDLs underwent training on Bookkeeping NC II, 25 on Bread and Pastry Production NC II and 16 on Events Management NC III from May to June under TESDA’s Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP). They were trained by the High Achievers Training Institute of Asia and the Pomona Tech-Voc Learning Center.

The said intervention aims to give PDLs the opportunity to acquire skills which they can use by the time they go back to mainstream society.

TESDA XI Regional Director, Engr. Lorenzo G. Macapili, DTE said the training program is a proof that the agency is fulfilling its mandate of providing skills training program to its priority clients including the PDLs.

“This is in line with the intensified effort of the government under the implementation of the Executive Order No. 70 or the Whole of Nation Approach that is to provide programs and services to those who belong in the marginalized sector,” Macapili said.

He urged other PDLs to express their willingness and interest to acquire new skills and knowledge so that they may be provided with the necessary training programs.

Director Macapili also told the PDLs to also encourage their family members to enroll in any of the technical vocational courses being offered by both public and private TVET institutions.

Meanwhile, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Spokesperson, Jail Inspector Edo B. Lobenia said the program is part of BJMP’s thrust of conducting meaningful and productive activities for the PDLs inside the said facility.
